2019-10-28 | Journal | American Animals

I watched American Animals during my workout the last couple of days. It is a painful film to watch. I almost stopped watching it a few times. There were two parts that redeemed it for me. The first was when the real librarian talked about their transformative experience. They wanted it for free, without working for it. The second part, close behind, was when the credits closed with Rodriguez singing Crucify Your Mind. I am in the middle of transformation, and the coupling with the song made sense to me, and served as wisdom. Even more than the lyrics, which are perfect for the movie and the librarian's words, is how Rodriguez handled his sojourn from fame. We could all use a dose of his humbleness.
